The passage quotes a joint statement issued by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the UN Environment Programme for the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, observed on 29 September 2022. The two agencies set out the case that reducing food loss and waste serves the climate, food security, and the sustainability of agrifood systems at once — and that the case grows more urgent, not less, when hunger and food prices are rising.
